The MBD Clavicle System is a simple yet comprehensive set of implants and instruments for clavicle fixation. It has been designed to facilitate efficient clavicle plating while minimizing complexity and inventory. Unlike locking plate systems, which require provisional non-locking screws to first be used to compress the plate to the clavicle to reduce profile, the MBD system uses hybrid non-locking screws to compress the plate to the bone as they simultaneously bend and twist the plate to conform to the complex geometry of the clavicle.
Titanium plates in six lengths, 6 through 11 hole, self-contour to either the left or right clavicle simplifying implant selection. Slotted holes in the central section of the plate allow for screw angulation with generous countersinking which eliminates screw head protrusion. An underside radius reduces the installed profile of the construct and maintains strength. The ends of the plate are tapered to minimize prominence and soft tissue irritation at the plate-to-bone transition.
Self-tapping titanium alloy bone screws have a hybrid cortical-cancellous thread design to provide maximum purchase in the clavicle thereby providing the compression necessary to bend and twist the plate as it self-contours to the underlying bone. A compact head design results in minimal protrusion above the plate surface. Screws are provided in 2mm increments (12mm-24mm).
Titanium alloy fragment screws permit fixation of smaller bone fragments. The tapered head can be recessed into the bone so as not to interfere with optimum plate placement. These self-tapping screws are provided in 2mm increments (10mm-24mm).
